There is a light...
It is so easy to get distracted from the reality of Christmas..my friend Elle wrote this poem reminding us about the true light, the truth of Christmas.
It is beautifully written.
It’s Christmas again and we’re gathered together,
Our fingers crossed for that winter weather.
We’re full of mulled wine and mince pies galore,
Enjoying the change of the streets’ decor.
The shops have been playing those Christmas songs,
And we have tried not to sing along!
There are cards sat neatly on the windowsill,
Showing love in the season of true goodwill.
The tree is up and the lights are glowing,
But there is a deeper wonderment growing.
Those little bulbs giving off so much light,
Where else can we find such beauty and might?
They have transformed a plain looking tree,
I wonder...
Is there something that could do that for me?
There is a light,
A hope breaking in,
Bringing freedom and peace
And a joy from within.
It’s for families together,
Warm round the fire,
Full of cheer and laughter,
With gifts to admire.
It’s for the widow alone,
With her tear stained face,
Frozen by the ‘News Flash’
That stole her embrace
There is a light,
A hope breaking in,
Bringing freedom and peace
And a joy from within.
It’s for children excited
By Christmas approaching,
‘Santa stop here!’
They’re praying, they’re hoping.
It’s for the boy with the scars
Who is trapped in despair,
Marked arms that remind him
Of all those nightmares
There is a light,
A hope breaking in,
Bringing freedom and peace
And a joy from within.
It’s for lovers strolling
Through the white winters snow,
Smiling, hand holding,
Their faces aglow.
It’s for the man who is numb
Searching to buy,
His feeling found
In a pill-popped high.
There is a light,
A hope breaking in,
Bringing freedom and peace
And a joy from within.
It’s for friends in the tea shop
Warming hands on fine mugs,
Greeting each other,
With kisses and hugs.
It’s for the teen in the mirror
Who’s blinded by pressure,
Not seeing her body
In all its true measure.
For all these dear people
And for me and for you,
This light is a person,
I’ll give you a clue...
He’s an earth shaker, peace maker
Love giver, saves the sinner
Pain reliever, our redeemer
Life leader, people feeder.
Great teacher, Kingdom preacher
Humble server, The Lords worker
Strong defender, heart mender
Wisdom bringer, battle winner.
He’s the chosen one, Gods Son
Crowned in glory, hero of the story
Bringing comfort and worth, to all on this earth,
